Law Enforcement/Crime Scene Investigation

This program is intended to be a general introduction to the American Criminal Justice System with emphasis on law enforcement. Students will explore U.S. Constitution Law and the Missouri Criminal Code. Some of the skills and knowledge of the general duties performed by law enforcement officials will be presented by officers from a variety of local law enforcement agencies adding their knowledge and experience with lectures and demonstration throughout the program. Students will participate in lab activities related to each area of study.

Officer Bruns has been the LE/CSI since 2007. He is the SkillsUSA co-advisor, SkillsUSA Missouri State Officer Advisor and SkillsUSA contest coordinator for the contest areas of Criminal Justice, CSI and CJ Quiz Bowl. He has led three CSI teams and one CPS team to national titles as well as having 56 students place in the top ten of the nation. Officer Bruns has been recognized as the Outstanding New Career and Technical Instructor of the year, 2011, Breaking Traditions Instructor of the year, 2016, as well as SkillsUSA Outstanding Advisor of the year 2017.

PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR

Officer Hopper is happy to join the Platte County R-3 School District and the NCC faculty team beginning August 2021. Officer Hopper served the prior six years as a Police Officer and more recently a Detective in the Kansas City metro area. Prior to attending the Kansas City Regional Police Academy, Officer Hopper was a Crime Scene Investigator in Kansas City, Missouri. Officer Hopper received a bachelor’s degree in Biology from State University of New York at Oneonta in 2012 prior to obtaining a master’s degree in Forensic Science, Advanced Investigation from the University of New Haven in Connecticut in 2014. Officer Hopper is looking forward to pursuing her passion of teaching and to share her knowledge and experiences with the next generation.
