Platte County School District Partnership Courses

Through a partnership with Platte County School District, Essential Skills/Awesome Careers can be divided into two courses for Platte County students.

Foundations of Technical Careers
Freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors can take Foundations of Technical Careers. The course will be an opportunity for students to learn technical concepts in the areas of safety, tools, electrical concepts, mechanical concepts, troubleshooting, precision measurement, blueprints and drawings, and project work in technical careers. Students will also begin to explore technical careers in the career clusters of architecture and construction, manufacturing, and transportation & logistics.

Connecting with Technical Careers
Sophomores, juniors and seniors who have successfully completed the Foundations of Technical Careers course can take Connecting with Technical Careers. This course builds upon the technical skills that are learned in Foundations of Technical Careers. Students will make additional connections in the concepts and exploration listed above. Students will be able to complete activities and hands-on projects that are aligned to NCC's six technical career courses and each unit will feature direct instruction, individual exploration and lab activities.

Essential Skills/Awesome Careers (Program offered in full AM Session for Sophomores)
This program allows students to learn technical concepts in the areas of safety, tools, electrical concepts, mechanical concepts, troubleshooting, precision measurement, blueprints and drawings, and project work in technical careers. Students will begin to explore technical careers in the career clusters of architecture and construction, manufacturing, and transportation and logistics. As the year progresses, the main focus will be on additional connections with electrical concepts and precision measuring. Northland Career Center offers students the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment and gain valuable experiences. Taking this course will lead to opportunities to take any one of six technical courses at Northland Career Center (Aviation Technology, Construction Technology, Diesel Technology, Heating, Cooling & Climate Control, Industrial Welding, and Production Technologies).

PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR

Mr. Sayre

Mr. Sayre joined the NCC staff in the fall of 2020. He has more than two decades of manufacturing/production experience in a wide range of fields. He's performed nearly every job from Apprentice Mechanic to Controls Engineer and eventually worked his way up to the plant Industrial Maintenance Manager. He studied Industrial Maintenance at MCC Business and Technology Center early in his career. The chances are good that if it has something to do with manufacturing or production technology, he's either done it or been part of a team working on it. He's also had the privilege to work with Oak Park High School Robotics as a mentor for the past several years. "I'm excited to join NCC," Sayre said. " I am looking forward to sharing my experience and knowledge in these high demand fields with the next generations."
