Health Sciences

APPLY

Health Sciences is a one-year course designed for high school students wishing to enter the medical field. Students will acquire valuable knowledge and training that will prepare them for a variety of healthcare professions. They will gain experience in basic health care, CPR, anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, and common disorders while in a lab, clinical, or classroom setting. Clinical and classroom experiences prepare students to take the state's Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam.

PROGRAM INSTRUCTORS

Mrs. Bledsoe, MS-CTE, BSN, RN, graduated with honors in 1990 from Missouri Western State College (now MWSU) with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She worked 26 years as a RN in multiple settings including hospital diabetic and medical surgical units, home health and long-term care. She also worked as Parent Educator and substitute nurse for North Platte R-1 Parents As Teachers program and Charge nurse and MDS coordinator for a long-term care and skilled nursing rehabilitation facility. Mrs. Bledsoe has been teaching at NCC since 2016

Mr. Brown, MS-CTE, BSN, RN, earned his LPN in 1989 from Kansas City Mo. Board of Education Program of Practical Nursing, ADN in 1995 from Sanford-Brown College, and BSN in 2013 from Mid America Nazarene University. He has more than 30 years of experience working as a CNA instructor and in acute care. David has been teaching at NCC since 2016

INDUSTRY RECOGNIZED CREDENTIALS/OTHER CERTIFICATIONS

Students meeting the qualifications are eligible for the Missouri Nursing Assistant Certification (CNA). They also can earn CPR, First Aid, Stop the Bleed and OSHA for Healthcare.
